Family (noun): 1. A basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not. 2. A group of people who are generally not blood relations but who share common attitudes, interests, or goals.
Family is everything for me. It's with this group of people do I feel the safest. I get protective of those I care about especially my family. They might not be the greatest at times but they are definitely the ones who stick by you no matter what. Each side of my families, I have a certain relationships with. Since I basically grew up with my mom's side of the family, I'm the closest with them. Even though they live in the Philippines, whenever we visit them, it's like no time has past since the last time we saw each other. My mom's family is from Sampaloc, so that means every single member of the family is fairly loud.
We are built to be loud, because not only will there be the sound of cars, motors and other vehicles from the outside, there will also be the sound of the TV. So if you can't bring up the volume of your voice, you won't be heard. These people are the ones who showed me that no matter what happens, whether there's a fight or an argument, we're still family and we stick together. I probably got my weirdness from them (no lie). picture taken May 2013 during my parents' wedding anniversary.
There's so much to say about my mom's side of the family. I don't say it to them very often (not at all) but I love them all with my whole heart. They helped shaped me to be the person that I am now.

For me, family is family. I have a very weird family tree, but they are still family. I don't have just a mom or a dad side. I have my mom's side, mommy beth's side, lolo's side, dad's side and papa's side. To specify which side of the family I'm talking about, I have to say which side of the tree I'm related to them.

To the Carino Family, who welcomed my mom and I with open arms, I want to say thank you and I love you guys. Being part of your family taught me what it's like to accept and love everyone as a family. Tara and Lizbelle, not only did you guys become my cousins but you also became my best friends. I can't wait till our next adventures together. Things happen for a reason, because I have learned to be more open about new people in the family. It made me see that even though something wrong had happened, something great came out of it. If some of the events did not happen, I wouldn't have met any of you but praise God that He gave me a family that made me feel like I belong. I'm excited to come home next time to celebrate Lolo and Lola's wedding anniversary. Let's not forget about my family here in Canada. My family who I'm not really related to; the ABC Family.
You guys have definitely made living here in Canada bearable and more fun. While our whole family is still in the Philippines, we all have found a family in each other. We all became each other's shoulder to lean on. Some people might see us as exclusive, but that's not true. We are quite welcoming when it comes to new people. The only problem is that we have loud personalities, and the only people who lasts long around us are the ones who can keep up with the loudness and weirdness of the family. We are a group of friends, who became a family. You can't choose your family, but you can choose who will be your family. I can talk more about my family, but that would go on forever. Just like what my parents told me, "friends come and go, but family is forever." So if you think your family is weird and embarrassing, embrace it. Never be ashamed of your family, because you learn life long lessons from them. And remember, your family doesn't necessarily have to be related to you but are the ones who are willing to stand by you through thick and thin, and your ups and downs.
Before I leave you all, I want to leave a special shoutout to my "fake" cousins in California! Thank you for pushing me to pursue my dreams and do the things that I love. It was because of Christian pushing me to continue my writing that I considered starting a blog. And for Tiffany, who became my confidante whenever I need to talk to someone, thank you. You guys have become more than just friends, you became a part of my family.

So, I’ve been MIA for a year. Honestly, I have posts saved but I haven’t finished writing them. 2019 has been a whirlwind of events. First and foremost, I graduated college! I still will like to continue my education, but not at the moment. I finished school with an Associate of Arts, specializing in English. I want to get my Bachelor’s but first, I have to upgrade my math skills to get into my desired university. Eventually, I want to be able to go to either Stanford or UC Berkeley. That’s a story for another time...when it actually happens! HAHAHA Second, I have been slowly pursuing the things I love. I was part of the Evergreen Cultural Centre’s performance of Cinderellas. I was so surprised when I was casted as one of the Cinderellas. It was most definitely an amazing experience. I was expecting to be a part of the ensemble and not even get any speaking roles. I just wanted to get a feel of the theatre but who would have thought I will get two lead roles. It was stress...
Strength. A person can be physically, emotionally or spiritually strong. Sometimes it can be all three. But what makes a person strong? For me, it's being able to push through even when faced with so many obstacles in life. One person in my life that taught me that there's more to live for is my aunt. Since she didn't want me using her real name, let's name her Marichelle. So from the beginning my Aunt Marichelle had her struggles. I didn't know about them because she lived her life with a smile on her face. She finished school then worked. She traveled and hung out with her friends. She was living the life. But not every thing we see looks like sunshine or rainbows. I didn't know that she was going through a lot of pain emotionally and mentally. I was in high school when I learned about her depression. Before I learned what depression actually was, I just thought it was when someone is "really sad." I didn't know t...
I've always been the type of person who does not get offended easily or what some people consider, sensitive. I learned to just ignore what people say about me and hold my head up high. But, a person can only handle so much. Growing up, I was a chubby kid (still am). I always here people saying and calling me fat. Even my own family says it but again, we tease each other in the family a lot. So as I got older, I’ve learned to ignore people when they tease me. I guess growing up with my family, it helps you build a tough shell. It teaches you how to ignore those who will put you down and don’t take their insults to heart. Because isn't that what bullies want, to see your reaction? As I got older I had no problems with bullies. I try to make sure I was getting along with everyone who was around me. I live by the motto of "treat others the way you want to be treated". So my whole life, I try to show kindnes...
